My Background, Education and My Philosophy
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years experience in Human Services.
My Background
I have worked primarily with children in the Westbrook school system providing mostly individual therapy using play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy approaches as well as adapting techniques and therapeutic interventions from a variety of philosophies, theories and experience.  I have also done extensive group work with children, parenting work, counseling for parents of students, family therapy and child-parent relationship therapy(CPRT).
Education and "pre-masters" experience
I Graduated from Colby-Sawyer College with a BA in Psychology in 1987 and from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work with a MSW in 1996.
I have had prior experience teaching outdoor education to public school students in Colorado and have had many years experience working with adults with mental illness as a Case Manager and Senior Residential Counselor in Newton and Waltham Massachusetts.  My clinical internship through Boston College Graduate School of Social Work involved intensive training at the Harvard University and Boston Children's Hospital 's Judge Baker Manville School in the Longwood Medical area in Boston.
My Philosophy
"Keep it simple".  Life has so many complications, stress and at times is extreemly chaotic.  We all have the tendency to get wrapped up in all of the confusion and stress.  By simplifying goals and building on existing and new found strengths one can then process their situation and in turn, learn, practice and use skills to cope with every day life and overwhelming life events.  Everybody is different and require an individualized and flexable treatment plan to meet the individual needs of clients and their families.  I also believe therapy is a two way street and clients get the most out of the service by taking an active role in the process and communicate their concerns and ideas.

"Postmasters" history in Maine
In an agency
I started as one of the first Spurwink Public School Counseling Program Clinicians at both Prides Corner and Congin schools in September of 1996.  In May of 2006 Spuwink went through a massive restructure that did not support the Public School Counseling positions in Westbrook.  Deeply believing in the value of our counseling model, the Westbrook clinicians researched agencies that would support our work in Westbrook.  By September of 2006 we transfered all of our cases to ourselves as independent clincians/private practice and Possibilities Counseling affiliates.  As of October 2010 I am back with Spurwink in the Affiliate Program where I am supported at both Congin School and at Maine Neurotherapy Center.
Neurofeedback
In August 2009 I attended the Othmer Method of EEG Neurofeedback training, where I learned the newest form of neurofeedback using lower frequencies and producing better results than current techniques.  This type of feedback is on the cutting edge in the bio/neurofeedback community and very few clinicans have been trained on this method.  In September 2009, I joined fellow BC alum and LCSW Nancy Campbell, LCSW to form the new
Maine Neurotherapy Center.  Where we offer both traditional therapy and Neurofeedback.  While continuing to work with my clients and families in Westbrook 3 to 4 days a week, I will have several afternoon appointments available as well 1 to 2 full days at MNC. I continue to recieve training and update my research on new trends in the field of Neurofeedback.
